Q: Does the 200 plank set contain instructions for all the instructions in the 50 plank set?

It came with a booklet with all the instructions for all the contraptions. My boys love this set!

Q: How wide are the planks? Do only marbles fit on them or could it work with matchbox cars?

One could build a track wide enough for a matchbox cars by setting planks side by side with rails, but the planks are light and would easily be knocked around by the weight of the car. Marbles are also somewhat difficult to keep in track but ping pong balls work well. Keva planks are good to mix with other toys in general.

Q: The age range says 7-11, but it looks fairly complex? Would an older child get bored quickly, or is there enough here for a preteen- young teen?

Sort of a hard question to answer because it depends more on the interest of your child than his age. My son played with it most when he was 9-10. He played less with it as he got older. Yet, I think that was because he had built so many of the engineering designs which they explain and display in the game so many times already. As he got older, he played with it less, but was a little more creative in coming up with his own creations instead of the designs in the game itself. If a child likes to build, I think he would like it any age. Yet, I would say the older a child gets, the less interest in he would have in this basic set and the more he might want one of the more advanced sets, but they do cost more. In sum, I think a pre-teen or early teen would have some fun with it as long as they like to build stuff, but I think the older they are the less interest they would have. If your child is 13 or 14, I would recommend something more advanced.
