Kids enjoyed
We used this as a supplement to our other middle school homeschool American history curriculum (All American History) which is a little dry. These books add interesting, colorful stories that really bring history alive. I would not recommend as a stand alone curriculum.

Super book
Joy Hakim is a prayer-answerer! She's written a set of books that tell the stories behind the history in a reader-friendly way and manages to infuse humor as well. I use this book in my 5th grade classroom to supplement our studies of colonial times; the kids love to hear those interesting, little-known facts that are sprinkled throughout the chapters. I feel like the kids can really relate to the people and events because of the way the author addresses her readers. I highly, highly recommend this book whether you are a teacher, a parent, a student, or just interested in the story of US.

Wonderful way to learn U.S. history
The entire collection of A History of US is amazingly detailed and chock-full of photos and to keep a young person interested in the story of our country. As with the other books in the series the chapters are fairly short and loaded with facts children find intriguing. From Colonies to Country is especially useful to me as a teaching tool because it covers the critical years of the founding of the nation. My 10-year old daughter loves to sit and share bits of information with me from the pictures and side notes in each chapter. She learns best when she's most involved and this set keeps her interest.

Perfect for my 5th grader!
My son had a major report due on The Battle of Bunker Hill but didn't have the background knowledge of the American Revolution to really understand the importance of the event. Luckily, I knew about Joy Hakim's wonderful series and quickly downloaded this book on my Kindle for him. We read the book together and he really seemed to enjoy it. More importantly, he understood it. Bless you Joy Hakim!

We all LOVE this series!
Started our homeschooling adventure with the Story of the World series, and my kids hated it! I picked up the first of this series at our local bookstore and we were hooked. I read a chapter aloud, and we discuss along the way. Lots of pictures and little side-notes to make it interesting. We are now on book 3 and excited to keep going.

Like short chapters. Provides information and little tidbits on the sides. Also purchased the study guide to go along with it.
